  • Pediatric Cardiology

Our center’s team of pediatric cardiologists provide careful and responsive treatments for your child's overall heart condition, diagnosing and treating chronic heart and blood vessel problems in children.

Our pediatric cardiologists use leading technology and advanced tests such as an echo cardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart), 24-hour Holter monitors and Exercise testing to detect abnormal heart rhythms, in addition to lab tests and imaging studies that include prenatal cardiac evaluation. Together, these methods guide your physician towards the correct method of treatment for your child’s long term health.

Your child’s cardioactive health is crucial. The heart pumps the blood around the body, allowing it to do its job at providing the oxygen and nutrients to the different organs and taking away and disposing waste and carbon dioxide. If there is a problem with heart (cardiac) function, there may not be enough oxygen or nutrients reaching the organs, which can affect your child’s growth and development, and in some cases may lead to death.

A pediatric cardiologist usually becomes involved in your child’s treatment after a general pediatrician has requested an evaluation of a certain patient. This may happen if the primary doctor is suspecting a heart condition due to the history or physical examination findings. But patients may come directly to the pediatric cardiologist in the following situations:

    • Known or suspected heart disorders: Congenital Heart Disease, Cardiomyopathy, Arrhythmia
    • Palpitations
    • Chest pain
    • High cholesterol/ Lipid disorders

  • Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology

Hormones affect every aspect of our children’s lives from the ability to function, to growth and development. Maintaining hormonal balance is essential for children. Hormonal conditions include thyroid hormones, growth hormones, pubertal hormones and insulin, and most hormonal conditions are manageable with a pediatric endocrinologist.

Our team of dedicated pediatric endocrinologists evaluate, diagnose and treat children with hormonal imbalances and deficiencies, as well as pediatric diabetes. Their evaluation usually includes obtaining a history and complete physical examination, in addition to lab and radiology testing.

For diabetic children, the physician provides diabetes education and assesses blood sugars together with the diabetes team to manage insulin and insulin pumps and sensors. Treatment and management of obesity is part of that specialty as well.

When does your child need to see a pediatric endocrinologist?

A pediatric endocrinologist usually gets a referral from the general pediatrician/primary care physician asking for an evaluation of a certain patient. This may happen if the primary doctor is suspecting a hormonal condition due to history or physical examination findings.

Patients may come directly to the pediatric endocrinologist in the following situations:

    • Obesity
    • Excessive thirst and urination
    • Excessive fatigue
    • Abnormal weight loss
    • Short stature and growth hormone deficiency
    • Puberty that is too early or too late
    • Period irregularity in girls
    • Thyroid disorders
    • Diabetes of all types
    • Adrenal disorders
    • Pituitary disorders
    • Bone disorders including Vitamin D deficiency and disorders of calcium metabolism

What can you expect from our Pediatric Endocrinology clinic?

Our treatment plan is tailored according to a child's unique needs. During the first clinic visit, we will ask you about your child's medical history. This is followed by a full physical examination focused on the specific reason for the visit. Based on the data, we will decide if further testing or treatment is needed.

If the child is diabetic, we will assess blood sugar logs and meter, and download of the pump if the child has one.

Our physicians and staff are some of the best qualified in the country. Our physician is certified as a Pediatric Endocrinology Consultant by the American Board of Pediatrics and has many years of experience in the U.S.A.
